Lori S. Nugent is a Partner in the Chicago office. She brings to clients a national reputation in the growing area of data security and privacy issues, as well as other issues stemming from the use and misuse of computer technology. Recognizing the challenges that clients face in this area, Lori leads the team of attorneys with special skill sets needed to address these issues. With over a decade of expertise, Lori has counseled corporations in hundreds of matters in jurisdictions throughout the United States and elsewhere in the world.
Lori regularly investigates and opines on data breach situations, addressing a myriad of issues including determining the scope of exposed data, managing notification of potentially impacted individuals to enhance customer loyalty and minimize litigation exposure, advising on call centering and other effective methods of addressing concerns of impacted individuals. Additionally, she has successfully resolved numerous disputes stemming from data breaches through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation. Her work has varied from small breaches involving a few hundred people, to the largest breaches that involve tens of millions of impacted people.
Her expertise extends to a variety of substantive areas that are frequently involved in data breach and other computer-related disputes. These including privacy statutes and common law rights, patent and trademark infringement, theft of trade secrets, damage caused by software failures, data misuse and data theft.
