Scott M. Smedresman is an Associate in the White Plains office focusing on the practice of intellectual property law. He counsels both public and private entities on a diverse array of commercial intellectual property issues, including domestic and international trademark rights acquisitions, development of copyright protected materials, drafting of technology related policies and agreements, and the valuation, licensing and other exploitation of trademark, copyright and patent rights. Additionally, Scott handles all manner of disputes regarding the ownership and use of intellectual property rights.
Scott routinely audits the intellectual property portfolios and development practices of companies in various industries to assist them in protecting and exploiting these portfolios. This includes identifying and securing rights, negotiating licensing and acquisition agreements, as well as drafting website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy documents. In addition, he registers and maintains trademark registrations in numerous countries around the world.
On the risk management side, Scott conducts comprehensive reviews of business websites to ensure proper compliance with copyright and trademark law, as well as various other regulations. Further, he frequently reviews advertising materials to ensure the proper treatment of third-party materials and to avoid false advertising risks.
Scott has authored numerous articles and has given presentations on topics such as internet risk management and proper trademark usage in advertisements.
