Thomas A. Leghorn

Thomas A. Leghorn is a Partner in the New York and White Plains offices. His legal practice includes professional liability, intellectual property, complex civil litigation and international litigation. Tom’s practice has included litigation throughout the United States involving all areas of professional liability, including technology E&O, financial institutions, intellectual property, and complex civil litigation. A significant portion of Tom’s practice has involved insurance coverage primarily in the areas of professional liability, including lawyers, accountants and insurance broker/agents errors and omissions policies as well intellectual property. Tom has acted as an expert witness in federal court on the scope of coverage for intellectual property claims under a CGL’s advertising injury provisions. Included within this area of his insurance coverage practice is acting as coverage counsel for numerous insurers as well as actively handling coverage litigation in both state and federal courts.

In the area of legal malpractice, Tom has handled these types of claims for more than 25 years. He has defended law firms throughout the United States, trying cases in both the state and federal courts. In addition to trial work and appeals, Tom has been retained by many firms to conduct risk management audits and to act as outside general counsel. He serves as a member of the New York State Bar Associations Committee on Professional Responsibility.

The intellectual property portion of the practice has grown in the areas of copyright, trademarks, and the defense of patent claims. This practice has similarly involved Tom in all aspects of e-commerce and media liability/defamation. Tom has served as the firm’s liaison to our French affiliate since 1994. Additionally, Tom has written numerous articles published in the New York State Bar Journal and publications of the American Bar Association.
